LEASIDE LANDSCAPE DESIGN
Jennifer Hayman Design Group was very pleased to be working with this homeowner on our second project together to create a multi-functional backyard space.
When we arrived, there was a very large, old garage taking a large portion of the backyard, with the frame of a shed behind it, and a very small, awkward deck.
Our designer removed the garage, exposing a covered dining area behind the shed, where we hung an antique yellow chandelier the homeowner found.
The lawn was bordered with natural Indian stone, creating a natural barrier between the garden and the children’s play area on the grass. Acting as a low-maintenance tool to keep the garden separate, it quickly became a favourite addition to their play space.
A path was added through trees to the back of the property, using stone found on-site, to create a “secret garden” for the children.
JHDG’s designer reconfigured and expanded the deck, allowing for seating, and creating large wrap-around stairs to meet a raised back door. Our designer chose cedar instead of pressure-treated pine for it’s naturally durable, non-toxicity.
Natural elements were added by planting trees for privacy and planters along the neighbor-facing side, to give colour and interest when inside the home. Gardens were created to be low-maintenance with a blend of hydrangeas and heuchera with low grasses, adding colour and interest through the seasons. Existing evergreen trees were pruned to improve their health and add to their longevity.
Jennifer Hayman Design Group created a contemporary and timeless outdoor space to meet the needs of a growing family in this Leaside landscape design.
“I just wanted to write a few words to let you know once again how happy we are with the garden you have created for us. As you know we were thrilled with your design for our Riverdale garden back in 2007. Now in our new home we find ourselves equally delighted with your latest vision. You were able to blend perfectly both my husband and my ideas for our backyard. It’s a perfect retreat, play area and entertaining garden! Thank you Jennifer!”
