ROSEDALE LANDSCAPE DESIGN
This stunning Rosedale landscape design is a Landscape Ontario Provincial Award of Excellence Winner.
Jennifer Hayman Design Group began working with the homeowner to clear an unusable backyard full of rock and debris, reworking the existing topography that had been poorly landscaped previously.
To meet the multi-functional needs of the homeowner’s young family, JHDG’s designer conceived multiple outdoor living areas to create a true outdoor extension of their home.
There is a lawn are for their children to play, and a full outdoor kitchen, complete with wine bar, sink, and large grill. To complement this, JHDG’s designer enclosed the dining area with raised planters evocative of the Cotswolds region in England – a choice specifically made to celebrate the homeowner’s English heritage. The stone terraces were surfaced with limestone imported from Indiana and the walled garden stone was sourced from Manitoulin Island and installed by a masonry team.
An additional seating area was set around an ethanol-burning fireplace, making use of an existing garage, and creating a second entertaining hub.
At the back of the property, our designer installed a 12 foot high walled water feature, which not only created a serene ambiance, but also functioned to cover the noise pollution of Yonge Street nearby. Frosted tempered glass fencing was used to create privacy from neighbours, but not block them out.
The space was furnished with a selection of high quality wicker furniture that complemented the historical architecture of this Rosedale manor, but had strong contemporary feel for a modern family.
The plants in this design were based on a formal aethetic; A blend of boxwood hedging, hydrangeas, and ornamental pear giving four-season colour, ensuring this Rosedale landscape design would be a beautiful, functional space to be in all year round.
This space is truly a contemporary, timeless, and multi-functional outdoor design that was fit to the homeowner’s family and lifestyle.
