TORONTO BEACH LANDSCAPE DESIGN
Jennifer Hayman Design Group was brought into this project to work in tandem with the architects who were designing a new home on the property. JHDG participated in three phases of this project.
We began with the front yard, where there was an almost 60 foot change in elevation between the front door and the sidewalk.
Our designer created a terraced hill with a series of steps and landings leading to the front door. Plants were chosen to be drought tolerant, which was a major concern given the large change in elevation and surface drainage of the front property. As a result, the designer chose to use plants such as ivy and ground cover native to the area that would thrive in these conditions but also add class and maturity to the overall design.
The second phase of the project began after the home was torn down and and the new home was built, at which point we began work on the rest of the property.
The home has a laneway behind the house for parking, and our designer used a tumbled brick paver that complemented the stone wall was used for the parking pad, creating visual unity between both spaces.
We added a dining area just off the main back entrance, creating flow between the indoor and outdoor living spaces. As the backyard is quite small, the dining patio was conceived to double as additional parking space when needed.
Our designer brought in an English stonemason to create a stone retaining wall at the back of the property. The result is a stunning 40-foot wall created with stone found on site, offering a truly unique feature and backdrop for the backyard.
During the third and final phase, JHDG was brought back after the home had been sold to create a personalized space for the new homeowner. Our designer added a water feature to the backyard dining space, in addition to a fountain and multiple sitting areas to the front yard.
This Toronto Beach landscape design was a true success story – we created spaces that complemented a new build, the existing topographical challenges, and a number of standout features to create a stunning yet classic outdoor space for the homeowner.
